better ways for improving humanity than "natural" selection

Nature is evil and crude.
Human beings reflect the attributes of the universe they came from by egocentrically putting others down.
Mankind wants to have their fun and joy (narcissistically) by improving genes by keeping people lower than others, and they living a covert privilege life.
We could band together and try to create a eugenic system not based on individualism. But alas' people would rather try their shot at being better than everyone else, and remain distanced.
It's why communism isn't a bad idea in theory, but it can't work with the way human beings are naturally.
Women will go for beta provider men once they can't be top on the sexual market. Proving my point you can only be a high hanging fruit hunter if you got the ability to climb the branches. For most, they can't and then they low key veneer being people who aren't completely primal/ superficialist consumed.

I don't really get your point. But natural selection isn't entirely working on humans now. Humans for the most part have risen above natural selection through technology. Humans are no longer subject to the laws of nature the way we once were. To survive humans have to adapt to the existing social system locally, that's how they can best perpetuate their genes. If you violate the social system you end up in jail, or dead, and can't procreate, or raise your child well.

In the future, through technology people might be able to genetically design their children, eliminate bad genes, etc. But this is still decades away if it ever happens.

... I'm saying that natural selection was the process by which we evolved to select from. It was so repetitious and deepspanning that it was utterly ingrained into our psyche's structure before the imposition of anything that could remotely reverse it. That's why we choose/ ordain/ process people by this animalistic system. Without any real multi million year erosion to replace the most deepset wires to our primal cerebrum.
